A Personal Vision Built Upon a Family Legacy
For the organization’s founder, personal encounters with veterans experiencing homelessness in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area brought the urgent need for safe, stable housing into sharp focus. Hearing their stories and witnessing the challenges they faced resonated personally, especially given her family’s own military experience. These experiences strengthened her commitment to honoring those who have served and ensuring that veterans have the dignity, stability, and support they deserve.

More Than a Roof Overhead
A dependable place to live can provide a starting point for moving forward. We believe the experience within that home matters, too.
Our vision is a nurturing, familiar household with nourishing meals, comfortable shared spaces, and opportunities to build relationships. We want residents to feel respected as individuals, with their own experiences, goals, and choices.
Through shared everyday life, we hope to encourage the camaraderie and connection that many veterans value.
A focus on housing, everyday needs, and access to outside resources.
Our Role in Supporting Veterans
The transitional home we are working to establish would focus on:
- A comfortable place to live while preparing for a more stable housing situation.
- Nourishing meals and ordinary household comforts.
- Assistance getting to appointments at the VA and other medical facilities.
- Opportunities for companionship, encouragement, and community.
Medical treatment, mental health services, and counseling would remain with qualified outside providers. SOLACE’s role would be to help residents stay connected with those resources.

SOLACE is in the process of developing the transitional home and support described here. Our goal is to create an environment where veterans feel supported as they establish routines, strengthen connections, and work toward greater independence.
